Louisa Elizabeth (Loranger) Hickey, 98, formerly of East Chelmsford, MA died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford.
She was married to the late Thomas F. Hickey who died in 1991.
Born in Lowell she was the daughter of the late Zephirim and Dora Loranger. She graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1938 and attended Lowell Commercial College.
Louisa worked as an accounts payable clerk for the McQuade’s Clothing Store in Lowell. She had previously worked for Heinze Electric of Lowell.
Louisa was a member of the Matthews Methodist Church in Lowell.
She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, crocheting, knitting and doing needlework.
Louisa is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Lillian Freeland of Lowell and the late Gladys Nichols of Chelmsford.
Her visitation will be Mon. from 9 to 10am followed by a Funeral service at 10am at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD. Burial in the Edson Cemetery, Lowell. I’m not sure if my siblings & I adopted Aunt Louisa or if she adopted us. This spunky, eccentric women opened her home & life to us in many ways. From picking us up from school when we were sick, to sleep overs & pool parties (even though she was afraid of water): she welcomed all of us in her home whenever we stopped by. She always had a story to share it you would listen & she would tell you exactly how she felt… at all times. She lived life boldly (like her pink, blue, or purple hair depending on the day) & loved the Lord as her savior. I will tell stories of her life to my children & I pray that they will inherit her zest for living each day to the fullest. She will be missed but I’m sure she is keeping busy in heaven.

Not only did we have the pool parties, you all learned to swim over there. I remember her yelling at me every time I threw one of you in. Jamie, she was thrilled when you named one of the kiddos after her. She will definitely always hold a special place in our hearts . . . Even though she always called me, “Dummy!”

I have to say, this doesn’t do her justice by any means. She was a crazy old lady who loved to push the envelope and give you her two cents. She was a cat lover who chased her cat around the house well into her 90’s forcing him to love her. She dyed her hair pink, blue, or purple for as long as I can remember because normal hair color was too boring for an old lady. She drank coffee creamer like it was milk, ate donuts whenever she well pleased, thought expiration dates were fiction, and is the only human who enjoyed eating turkey gizzards. With her passed a lot fascinating stories and history that many of us can’t even imagine. You will be missed Auntie Louisa!

Thanks Jake. Yes! Remember her chasing Blackie and holding him in the weirdest poses? I’m surprised he didn’t bite her. But she did love that cat. And all of you kids, too. We’ll miss her fighting with Josiah for the turkey skin before he could barely pull it off the bird.

My Aunt Louisa was a strong, determined, eccentric women who opened her home to my family. I have some wonderful life long memories that were made at her home that I will always cherish. From learning to swim in the pool to exploring the raspberry and blackberry bushes, I always had a blast. She and uncle Tom had a great pool house that I like to think they made just for us! Although I was very young, I actually remember her yelling at my dad when he threw me in the pool (she was not afraid to speak up). She came from a generation that worked hard and spoke their minds. From shoveling the snow off of her roof to hiding things in her ceiling to chasing her cat around, she was truly one of a kind. Aunt Louisa will be greatly missed. She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, so this is not goodbye but rather a ‘see you soon’. We will join with her someday and spend eternity in Heaven in the presence of the Lord God Almighty.

She did like to yell at me, didn’t she? It made her happy. As for the pool house, let’s say they redesigned it for us. They raised the ceiling for me, and the put a walking bar half way up the screen, because you were just learning to walk. She was a special part of our family.

Hello, I loved reading all the wonderful memories you have of Louisa. I had the pleasure of knowing your aunt when I had a job at McQuade’s. It was my first job and she made me feel welcome. We had a stern boss and she knew how to get around her. Louisa’s smile and sense of humor are two of my memories. I can tell that she will always remain in your hearts.
