Michael Patrick Janeiro, 71, of Lowell, MA, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA, after a long illness.

He was married to Shirley (Bujnowski) Janeiro with whom he celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on September 18, 2023.

Born in Lowell, MA, he was the beloved son of John Janeiro and Virginia (Burns) Janeiro.  He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1970. Michael served with the US Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He is a graduate of Middlesex Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science.

Michael retired in 2009 from Lowell Fire Department after 31 years of service. He was stationed for 30 years at the Branch Street Firehouse, serving on both Engine 2 and Ladder 2.  In 1992, Michael was named Firefighter of the Year.  He received the Award of Valor in 1997 and the Meritorious Service Award in 2004.  He was a charter member of the Lowell Firefighters Club, and a member of the Merrimack Valley Car Club, the Road Runners Car Club, and the Pelham Fish and Game Club.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Lowell.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with his vintage Malibus.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Colleen Janeiro, PhD, and her fiancé, Derrek Billings of Greenville, NC; his son, Michael and his wife, Lindsay Janeiro of Tewksbury, MA; a treasured niece, Kate (Janeiro) and her husband Neil Smith of Hollis, NH; five brothers, John Janeiro Jr., MD, of Hollis, NH, William Janeiro of Hudson, NH, Timothy Janeiro of Saco, ME, Anthony and his wife, Susan Janeiro of Quincy, MA, and Joseph and his wife, Doreen Janeiro of Plaistow, NH; two sisters, Virginia and her husband, Joseph LaFreniere of Chelmsford, MA, and Tara Coates of Hudson, NH; his 2 grandchildren, Mikey and Lauren Janeiro and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael Patrick Janeiro of Lowell, MA, who passed away on Thurs., March 28, 2024. Visiting hours Tues., April 2, 2024, from 3-7 P.M. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, N. CHELMSFORD, MA. Prayer service Wed., April 3, 2024, at 11 A.M. at the funeral home.
