Michael V. Laferriere, 73, of Lowell died surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was married to Virginia F. (Baranowski) Laferriere with whom he would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on April 17, 2017.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Henry C. Laferriere and Jeannette (Asselin) Laferriere Cormier. He graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1962 and attended Fitchburg State College.

Michael owned and operated the Laferriere Plumbing Company. He had previously co-owned and operated Laferriere & Sons Plumbing and Heating Company with his father and brothers.

Michael was the first plumbing teacher at the Greater Lowell Technical High School where he taught for eight years.

He was the Plumbing Inspector for the Town of Dracut for a year.

He was a member, recording secretary and past vice president of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors of Massachusetts.

Michael greatest joy was taking pictures and videos of family gatherings especially events with his grandchildren.

He was a licensed pilot. In his younger years he enjoyed scuba diving and playing darts.

Besides his wife he is survived by his sons, John Laferriere and his significant other, Carolyn Coughlin of Londonderry, NH and Thomas and his wife, Catherine Laferriere of Milton, NH; brothers, Henry Laferriere of Haverhill, Gilbert Laferriere of Pelham, NH and David Laferriere of Lowell; sisters, Beatrice “Sookie” Roe Derer of Santa Barbara, CA and Arlene Normandin of Lowell; grandsons, Mitchell Laferriere, Coleton Laferriere, Matthew Laferriere and Ethan Laferriere and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the brother of the late Gloria LaFlamme, Jeannie Campagnone, Delores Soucier and Janet Hargreaves.

Visiting hours Wednesday, April 19th 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Thursday, April 20th at 10A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11A.M. at St. Michael Church, Lowell. Burial in the Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MA 20852.
