Norman J. Fortin, 81, of N. Chelmsford died surrounded by his loving family from complications from a stroke on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was married to Phyllis (Belida) Fortin with whom he would have celebrated their twenty eighth wedding anniversary on November 20th.

Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Edgar and Delia Fortin. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence with the class of 1955.

He proudly served with the U.S. Navy on board the USS Leyte (CVS-32).

Norman owned and operated a hair salon in Andover. He had previously worked for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Rhode Island and for the Lowell Sun newspaper.

He was a member of the Last Time Band, the Chelmsford Senior Center, and enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his 2 sons, Craig and his wife, Kathleen Fortin of Audubon, PA and Derek Fortin and his spouse, Michael Tavares of Roslindale, MA; a brother, Ronald and his wife, Yuson Fortin of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Dorothea and her husband, Charles Denofrio of S. Palm Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren, Olivia, Graham and Claire Fortin as well as many nieces and nephews. Norman is also survived by Phyllis’s family, her 2 daughters, Tina and her husband, John Keiley of Dracut and Robin and her husband, John Yaeger of Placitas, NM; and her 3 grandchildren, Annamae Keiley and Saja and Cade Yaeger.

He was the brother of the late Claire Knox and Lois Hickey.

There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be Sat., Oct. 13, 2018 at 11am at the Congregational Church in North Chelmsford, 15 Princeton St., N. Chelmsford, MA.  Memorials may be made in his memory to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or to the Congregational Church in North Chelmsford, PO Box 128, N.     Phyll, Our condolences. Norm would always stop by the shoppe and we would talk about life for an hour or so. He was a “Phyll..Anthropist”. Very engaging soul! Chrissy and Norm would love to have a smoke in the body shop regardless of the fact that they might blow the place up! Norm flew by the seat of his pants! He had a good run!!! Bottom line.
