Phyllis Ann Conlon, 69, of Newton and Dennis, MA died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Waltham she was the daughter of the late Leo and A. Rita (Boumila) Conlon. She graduated from Keith Hall with the class of 1966, Emanuel College with the class of 1970, Boston State College with the class of 1974, and completed Harvard Extension Graduate Program.
She retired from Computer Associates. In her earlier years she was a first grade teacher at Boston Public Schools for eleven years.
Phyllis was a longtime member of the knitters club. She volunteered for many medical and social causes. She enjoyed music, photography, knitting, gallery hopping, and exploring Cape Cod.
She is survived by her sister, Maura Feeney and her husband, Charles of Mashpee, MA; Nephew, Chad Feeney of Manchester, NH; Nieces, Sara Ogden and her husband, Charlie of Londonderry, NH, Miriam Walsh and her husband, Patrick of Southboro, MA, Kate Small and her husband, Jeremiah of Westford, MA; and eight grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by many dear friends and considered Auntie to many.
She was the sister of the late Sara lee Conlon.
The family would like to thank the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital for all their kindnesses during this time.
Visiting hours Thursday 5 to 7 P.M at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 Middlesex St. Chelmsford MA 01863. Funeral Mass Friday at 9:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack St. Lowell, MA 01852. Please meet at church. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Emmanuel College Mission and Ministry, 400 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115 or Cape Abilities, 895 Mary Dunn Rd, Hyannis, MA 02601. I had the pleasure of getting to know Phyllis through my friends Maria and Joanne. One of my first memories was seeing her enter St. Peter’s Cathedral through the gigantic doors. It was a great Roman rendezvous in 1974. We enjoyed summer concerts at the Hatch Shell in Boston. There have been many wonderful visits with Phyllis over dinners and lunches. She was a gracious host at her Cape Cod condo. Phyllis had the gift of gab and knew all of the best spots to eat and shop. Her expansive group of friends and her family meant so much to her. She will be missed by all but God now has another angel. She was an angel on earth!

I was so grieved to learn from one of Phyllis’ dear friends, Elva Hicks, that Phyllis had died. Phyllis was a beautiful, caring, loving carrier of good in this world. I met Phyllis over
ten years ago, when her beloved mother, Rita, came onto our service. After Rita’s death, Phyllis enlisted the fiber artistry of her friends Elva Hicks and Pat Stewart to create
lovely, warm and comforting lap afghans for our patients. The three in-service volunteers became, “The Beacon Hospice Knitters” and they generously shared their considerable
talent and time with our patients by providing their knitted creations which were always deeply appreciated. Last year, much to my joy, Phyllis informed me that she wished to become
a direct care volunteer. Phyllis was such a supportive and caring outreach to her patient and her devoted husband. Her unselfish contribution of her time and presence blessed this couple during the last stages of their life together. The last time I saw Phyllis was at her patient’s visiting hours, and she told me she would be returning to direct care volunteerism in the spring. I have certainly lost a volunteer angel, but Heaven surely has gained one. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Phyllis family, friends and others who knew this very special lady.

Tom and I are heartbroken. We have loved Phyllis for over 50 years. In college, we had so many laughs at places like The Kegler in Boston. And many of our college friends will remember the excursions to see Mickey and Larry perform in Kenmore Square. What fun we had! In the last few years, she hosted us a couple of times at her house and took us to the Kennedy Library, the Gardner Museum, the North Shore etc. You couldn’t ask for a more generous friend. There will always be a big space in our hearts for Auntie P.

Phyllis was our Cape Cod neighbor (actually my inlaws). How my children loved her! They would arrive to Cranberry Knoll and look for her car, then run down the path shouting her name. My husband would shake his head and say how much they bothered her. However, Phyllis had a heart of gold, she always welcomed them. Mind you she kept them in place, told them not to come over in the morning unless the door was open. She was kind, thoughtful and generous. An angel to watch over us. God rest her soul.

I was very sad to hear of Phyllis passing. I know everyone at Cranberry Knoll will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I received a text just moments ago alerting me of Phyllis’s passing I gasped with surprise and dismay. Before I could open and read the text it mysteriously disappeared.( Phyllis’s doing?) To whom ever was kind enough to let me know, thank you. I met Phyllis many years ago at Scargo Pottery where she was a frequent visitor.and one of my favorites. We became friends and would always chat about the artworks. When I moved my studio she continued to visit and collect my work. She organized a group painting night at my studio a few months back and I believe it was the last time I saw her. I’m so glad we had the chance to paint together that night along with her friends. She was a very special person to me and I will miss her dearly.
