Richard E. McClure, 91, of Tyngsboro formerly of Chelmsford, MA passed away on October 3, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Joan F. (Scanlan) McClure for the past 61 years. Born in Lowell, MA on December 2, 1925, he was the son of the late William and Sarah (Herrity) McClure. Richard grew up in East Chelmsford, MA and attended Chelmsford High School, leaving before graduation to enlist in the United States Navy. He served proudly in World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy and the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He re-enlisted with the United States Navy for the Korean conflict from 1951-1955. Richard worked as an electrician for the Boston & Maine Railroad upon discharge from the navy and retired in 1985.
Besides his loving wife, Joan, Richard is survived by his six children and their spouses, Ann and Jack Clancy of Chelmsford, Richard and Martha McClure of Chelmsford, James McClure and Gail Thursby of Chelmsford, Michael McClure and his partner, John Castro, of Nashua, NH, Stephen and Victoria McClure of Hudson, NH and Karen and Shaun McCarty of Tyngsboro, MA.
Richard is also survived by sixteen grand-children, Jennifer, Sean, Michael, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Colleen, Carah, George, Denice, Cameron, Brenna, Shannon, Sarah, Sydney, and Shaun; 2 great-grandchildren, Ellie and Lucy, who he loved dearly and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Richard was pre-deceased by his brother, William, and two sisters, Rita D’Amato and Hazel Furey.
Visiting hours Friday 3 to 7 P.M at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family; burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of “Mr. McClure, as he was known to us kids in East Chemsford, until the family moved to the other side of Chelmsford! I’m so happy I got to say, “Hello” to him at the Tyngsboro High School Graduation, he should be proud of the wonderful family he raised with Mrs. McClure, so sorry for your loss.
