Robert D. Cunnington, 53, of Merrimack, New Hampshire passed away unexpectedly on December 26th, 2017. He was born on February 16th, 1964 in Chelmsford, and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School and Merrimack College. He went on to own his own business, Merrill Sales Group, in which he took great pride.

Bob had the biggest, most passionate heart of gold anyone had witnessed. He lived and died by his Bruins, the Boston Herald and bombarding his family with funny pictures of their cats. He cherished his memories of vacations and Van Halen concerts with his friends and family. He was known for his fiercely Republican views, and loved to debate politics at every family gathering. Bob was the patriarch of the Cunnington family and a shoulder to lean on in trying times. He loved his wife, daughters, sisters, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles more than anything on this earth, and was constantly boasting about their accomplishments to anyone or anything that would listen.

Bob is predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert and Lillian Cunnington, and his best friend, Henry the cat. He is survived by his wife, Susan Cunnington, and his daughters, Stacey and Stephanie Cunnington, his three sisters, Lynne Tyros, CeeCee Connell, and Janet Cunnington, his honorary brother, John Tyros, sister-in-law, Julie Brennan, brother-in-law, Mike Connell, his niece, Meredith Tyros, and his nephews, Steven and AJ Connell, Evan Tyros and Jake Brennan.

Visiting hours Fri. 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Sat. at 8:30A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9:30A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 115 Middlesex Street, Chelmsford, MA 01863. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery, N. Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of him to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

    To Robert’s family,
We remember Robert fondly as a young boy who played with our boys on Stonehill Rd. Although we lost touch along the years, just on Christmas, David mentioned playing some game with Robert. Fond memories.
Sending our sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort your mourning hearts. I pray that you find comfort in Revelation 21:3-5. This scripture paints a picture of a world that is very different from what we see today. A world with no more sickness, pain or death…and it’s not a dream, it is a promise from God. He promises to reverse the effects of death and resurrect your precious one. You will never have to say a painful goodbye ever again! (John 11:11-14,41-44; John 5:28,29) jw.org

As the song goes, “only the good die young.”

    Dear Sue, Stace,and Steph,
As I reflect on the last few days, I can’t help but think Rob would be so proud of all of you! As everyone who loved him knew his family was his proudest accomplishment!
Jan, you were not only his sister and best friend, you were also his rock.
I know he was smiling down from heaven seeing the tremendous turnout of everyone who braved the cold to celebrate his life!!
Rob knew how to get the party started and always seem to be the cental character. The laughter and the reminiscing was contagious at Dolans. All of Rob’s Chelmsford high school friends turned out “big league.”
Julie Brennan, you were a wonderful friend to my brother. Thank you so much for helping your sister coordinate the most wonderful send off.
And cousin Jules, your eulogy captured everything Rob was all about. Thank you so much for your eloquent speech.
Everyone who showed up was a piece of the puzzle that made this celebration so wonderful. Everyone brought their A game!

I am sure the sadness and the mourning will hit me at some point, but right now I can’t help thinking of all the crazy stories I heard about my brother. This is exactly how Rob would want it to be.

RIP Rob, and you were right David Lee Roth is so much better than Sammy Hagar!
