OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sheryl Lee McEnaney, 61, of Townsend, MA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday night November 27, 2016 at the Leominster Hospital, Leominster, MA.

Sheryl was born November 7, 1955 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Clarence “Jack” Sternberg and Carolyn Miller Sternberg. She spent her childhood surrounded by her large and loving family of nine siblings. After a blind date gone wonderfully right, she married the love of her life, Stephen McEnaney of Westford, MA, in a Pepperell field on October 15, 1978.

While Sheryl held a variety of careers during her life, the one she held above all others was that of being a mother. Raising her three children was her greatest accomplishment and favorite activity.  She instilled many life lessons that they may be reluctant to follow at times, such as: always cook your meat, even if that means burning it. Have a spare toothbrush on hand. Praise people for what you admire. Never say sorry unless you mean to change. Do not compare yourself to others. Be a kid at heart, even if it causes frustration.

Sheryl never had trouble being a kid at heart. She loved books and writing and found simple joy in a candy bar she knew she shouldn’t have. Her diminutive frame made her a perfect arm rest for her children and her kind heart and open smile made her a welcoming friend to everyone she met. Always thoughtful, she would find unique gifts for friends and family in the most unlikely of places and present them on any and every occasion. The greatest gift she had to offer was the most simple one of all: herself. If you had a story to tell, a song to share, a grievance to air – Sheryl was a captive audience, gasping and agreeing in all the right places.

Sheryl’s story lives on through her husband, Stephen McEnaney of Townsend, MA and their children, Patrick McEnaney of Jupiter, FL, Brian McEnaney of Townsend, MA and Lynn Carol McEnaney of Townsend, MA; nine siblings, Kate (Dennis) Trabue of Stevenson, WA, Mary (Russ) Crandall of Atlanta GA, Carol (Bill) Wiese of Claremont, CA, Becky Sternberg of Louisville, KY, Barbara (Dave) Lawler of Sadieville, KY, Steve (Joan Barker) Sternberg of St. Louis, MO, Susan (Paul) Nakasone of Fort Belvoir, VA, John (Danielle) Sternberg of Lexington, KY and  Chris (Lynne) Sternberg of Louisville, KY; and in-laws Thomas (Lorraine), Jack and Bob McEnaney.

Private Services were held Friday Dec. 2, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 115 Middlesex Street, N Chelmsford, MA 01863. Cremation at Merrimack Crematory. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Friends of the Townsend Public Library  12 Dudley Road Townsend, Massachusetts 01469. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041. I cannot believe that I am reading that Scheryl is gone! My sons and I saw her walking almost every day with Oliver. She always had a kind word to say and she always took the time to let my sons pat Oliver. I feel like a person I will never meet again has left this earth. Her smile was contagious and you always walked away from her feeling happy. She was one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met. I am so fortunate my kids knew her because she is what every human should be. Kind, gentle, patient, compassionate and warm. I will never forget her. God bless her and her family! Hope you are OK, Oliver!
