Theresa Pomerleau, 85, of Chelmsford, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital after a rapid decline in health.
She was happily married to the late Joseph A. Pomerleau for forty years until his death on March 4, 1998.
Born in Lowell, MA she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Cephise (Doucette) Rochette.  She graduated with honors from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1953.  Theresa continued her education and graduated in 1957 from Lowell State Teachers College.  She then taught sixth grade for the Tewksbury Public School System for several years.  With her desire to learn more while challenging herself, she went back to college later in life where she earned her Master’s Degree in Computer Science from UMass Lowell graduating with the class of 1984.
A majority of her career was spent working for Raytheon in Andover, MA where she excelled as a software engineer until her retirement in 2000. She was ambitious, dedicated, thoughtful and a mentor to several of her colleagues. She will be remembered for her many accomplishments throughout her career, most notably her contributions as a software programmer working on the Patriot Missile for the US Military.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of Chelmsford, MA. For many years prior, Theresa and Joseph were parishioners at St. John’s Church of Chelmsford, MA. Theresa was a church organist at St. Rita’s Shrine in Lowell in the 1960’s.As well as spending quality time with her family and friends, Terry enjoyed many activities over the years including traveling, gardening, dining, bowling, skiing, golfing, reading, quilting, playing the piano and organ, challenging herself with puzzles and brain games.  Terry also enjoyed attending plays and musical productions, adventuring to new restaurants, having fun at the casinos with her dear friends. Her annual summer trip to Hampton Beach, NH with her beloved granddaughter Laura was an adventure “Memere” looked forward to every year. This tradition continued on for many more to include Laura’s husband Tony and her beloved great-grandchildren Sam, Maya and Leo.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Alfred “Fred” and Heather Pomerleau of North Hampton, NH, her granddaughter and her husband Laura and Anthony “Tony” Olivo of Raleigh, NC, her three great-grandchildren Sam Olivo, Maya Olivo, Leo Olivo, her brother Raymond Rochette and his companion, her sister-in-law Doris Stephenson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  She was predeceased by her brothers Roland Rochette and Francis Rochette.
