Vimla (Sobti) Bhatia, 92, a long-time resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

She was born in Kohat, India, the daughter of the late Harnam Das Sobti and Laxmi Devi Sobti.

Educated in India, Mrs. Bhatia earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics at Mehila College in Lahore and was a math teacher.

Vimla left India for Canada in 1984, then the United States in 1992. She naturalized in each country, becoming a U.S. citizen in 2008.

Mrs. Bhatia was a devoted follower of Maharaj Mangat Ram and attended spiritual meetings at the Sadhu Vaswani Center and VHP of America.

She had a warm and vibrant personality, with an opinion on everything, and loved meeting people. She enjoyed following current events, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family. She raised not only her children, but also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, insisting that they strive for excellence, work hard, and give back to their communities.

Mrs. Bhatia is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Ratan Lal Bhatia of Chelmsford; her daughters and son-in-law, Dr. Rekha Bains of Chelmsford and Nalini and Dr. Ravindra Malhotra of Mansfield, Ohio; two sisters, Pushpa Kheterpal of Brossard, Quebec, and Savdesh Dewan, of Scarborough, Ontario; her grandchildren and their spouses, Geetanjali and Rishi Sondhi, Chiraag Bains and Tara Ramchandani, Deepika and Sundeep Shukla, Prianka Malhotra, and Pavan Niel Malhotra; five great-grandchildren, Millan Sondhi, Roopa and Vaasu Bains, and Deven and Riya Shukla; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son Kaka and daughter Renu.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Sunday, November 17th , from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, MA 01863. Cremation will be private and at the convenience of her family.
