Mary Louise Burnham Age 104 of Lowell

   Mrs. Mary Louise (McGrath) Burnham, R.N., 104, of Lowell died Sunday September 30, 2018 at the Northwood Nursing Home in Lowell, MA.

She was married to the late Mr. Arthur A. Burnham who passed away May 23, 1979 in Dublin, NH.

Born January 3, 1914 in Andover, MA, she was the daughter of the late Christopher J. and Catherine J. (McGillian) McGrath. She was a graduate of Lowell High School and received her nurses training at the Tewksbury State Hospital and Boston City Hospital, graduating in 1937 as a registered nurse.  She took a Post Graduate course at Providence Lying-In-Hospital in Providence, R.I.  In addition, she took many specialized credit courses at both Harvard College and Boston University.  She was a head nurse and supervisor at several Boston area hospitals before her marriage and then later a head nurse at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Bedford, MA.

She was a resident of Billerica Center for many years and active in Civic Clubs, St. Theresa’s Church and numerous school activities.  She served as an Elected Town Meeting Representative until she moved to New Hampshire.

In the past, both she and her husband were residents of Billerica, Dublin, NH, and spent their winters in Port Orange, FL.

She was a communicant of St. Rita’s Church and was a member of St. Rita’s Woman’s Club.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Maureen (Shaw) Burnham of Lowell,  two grandchildren, Hope (Burnham) Eacrett of Lowell, and Derek P. and his wife, Gayle (Machado) Burnham, granddaughter-in-law Kathleen (Flynn) Burnham all of Lowell, five great-grandchildren, Matthew, David, and Abigail Burnham of Lowell, Zachary, and Allison Eacrett of Lowell, MA, and many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

She was the mother of the late Arthur W. Burnham of Lowell who passed away

in 1999 and the sister of the late Thomas and Larry McGrath, Virginia Creegan, Florence Stott, Elizabeth Higgins, and Theresa Anderson all of Lowell, also her grandson Arthur A. Burnham and her great granddaughter Natalie J. Eacrett all of Lowell.

It being her wishes there will be no visiting hours. Mary’s Funeral Wed. at 10:30 from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11:30 at St Rita’s Church Mammouth Rd., Lowell, MA. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
