RobertLeGacyUSNavyRobert L. LeGacy, 89, of Nashua, NH, formerly a resident of Westford for 61 years, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Greenbriar Terrace Rehabilitation in Nashua, NH.
He was married to Nancy M. LeGacy with whom he would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on March 10, 2015.
Born in Swampscott, MA, he was the son of the late H. Melvin LeGacy and Althea Casewell. He graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in Great Barrington, MA.
He proudly served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Caliente A053 during World War II serving in Asiatic and Pacific Theatres. He was awarded a Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He attained the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Second Class Robert owned and operated R. L. LeGacy & Son Inc. of Westford for thirty nine years along with his son Wayne. He had retired from the Boston & Maine Railroad, where he worked as a signalman for twenty five years. Robert was a past auxiliary Westford Police Officer for twenty three years, a volunteer firefighter for the Westford Fire Department for twelve years, a past member of the Board of Health in Westford, a past member of the Affordable Housing Committee in Westford, a member of the Nabnasset Improvement Association in Westford and a member of the Westford Business Association.
He was a charter member of the Westford Rotary and at the time of his death had 43 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the Irish American Club, a lifelong member of the H.E. Fletcher Club, Chelmsford Elks 2310, the Stony Brook Fish and Game Club, the DAV Post 28 the VFW Post 6530, the Caleb Butler Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Ayer, Scottish Rite 32nd degree of the Tahattawan Lodge in Littleton, a member of the Aleppo Shriner’s Temple in Wilmington, the Boston and Maine Railroad Anchor Club, the Franco American Club, the Nabnasset Country Club and the American Legion Post 437. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Robert and his wife, Jai LeGacy of Matthews, NC, Wayne and his wife, Debra LeGacy of Westford, Gary and his wife, Brooke LeGacy of Westford and James and his wife, Wende LeGacy of North Attleboro, MA; three daughters, Jane LeGacy of Phoenix, AZ, Robin LeGacy of Chester, NH and Allyson LeGacy of Manchester, NH; one sister, Diane B. Keefner of Lee, MA; 15 grandchildren; Tracy Snowden , Carla Robinette, and Amanda LeGacy of North Carolina. Bryan Satero of Washington, Andria Marshall and Chelsey LeGacy of California, Erik Linstad, Nathan Linstad, Tallie Service, Cullan Baker, and Kyle Widness of New Hampshire. Lauryn LeGacy of Maine, and Tyler LeGacy, Brenna LeGacy and Landon Pallian of Massachusetts. 12 great grandchildren: Caleigh Snowden, Zachary Snowden, Nicholas Snowden , and Ethan Robinette of North Carolina, Isabella Regonini and Juliet Regonini of Maine, and Arik Linstad, Kira Linstad ,and Nolan Linstad, Emma Service, Jack Service, and Oliver Service, of New Hampshire, and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Helen J. Kashian Whitcomb of Englewood, FL and Melvin H. LeGacy of Rockport, MA.

Visiting hours Wed. 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Service Thurs. at 11AM at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford.     Dear Robin and Wayne: I will always remember Bob my friend for almost 40 years.
    Always willing to help others,a GREAT friend. Loyal to all who befriended him and the organizations he joined.
    It was grate fun at Rotary with his wonderful sense of humor and jovial laugh. I will miss him,but always remember my friend the “Gentle Giant”.

    Bob will be missed . . . he touched the lives of so many lucky people. I will remember Bob’s smile, and his ability to make others smile along with him. “Do you like chicken?” I feel fortunate to have known him the past 13 years.     Dad, I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss you and how my heartaches that you are no longer with us. I watched you go as you began your journey to find your family on the other side, I felt you leaving us as your grasp on my hand loosened. I know in my head that you are happy now, but I selfishly still want you here with me. Save me a good spot up there Dad, I love you.
