Stephen Jones, 67, of Chelmsford, MA passed away unexpectedly September 29, 2016 while representing the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union (JDCU) at a graduation ceremony for young entrepreneurs.

He was the husband of Dorothy (Rakip) Jones.

Jones was born in Everett, MA, on June 3, 1949 to the late Herbert and Elaine (Goodwin) Jones.  Steve lived in Stoneham for over twenty years before moving to Chelmsford.  He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1967 and Northeastern University in 1972.  Steve spent his entire career working within the banking industry.  For the past twenty years he worked for the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union and most recently held the position of Vice President of Community Development.  Steve previously held positions at both the Itek Credit Union and Balfour Credit Union.  He was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford.

Steve served on the Board of Directors for numerous charitable clubs and organizations throughout the Merrimack Valley and gave freely of his time and resources.  Friends and colleagues describe Jones as one of the most genuine people they have ever met.

Steve was an avid golfer and would take any opportunity to be out on the course.  He was a true New England sports fan with a passion for trivia.  Steve will be remembered by his family for his positive attitude and giving nature.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his three children, Kimberly (Jones) Berthiaume and her husband, Scott, of Shrewsbury; Michelle (Jones) Buckland and her husband, James, of Nashua and Jeffrey Jones of Chelmsford.  He was the proud grandfather of three beloved grandsons, Mason and Devin Berthiaume and Noah Buckland.  Steve also leaves behind his brother, Philip Jones and his wife Nina of Andover and his uncle Albert Jones and his wife Marjorie of Fairhaven.  Sister in law, Sharon Deyett and her husband George; Brothers in law, Kenneth Rakip and his wife, Holly; William Rakip and his wife, Pam, James Rakip and his wife, Lorraine, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steve was a registered organ donor and those wishes have been fulfilled.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 7, 2016 between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 PM at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., N. CHELMSFORD, MA.  Private Funeral Services will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Steve’s name to the “We Share A Common Thread Foundation,” c/o Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, Attn:  Michelle Silveira, 1 Tremont Place, Lowell, MA   01854. Steve served on the board of this foundation and funds will be distributed in his legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with Dorothy, his family and friends during this difficult time. I was lucky to have attended high school with Steve in Stoneham. It is confusing when someone is taken from this life, so suddenly, so unexpectedly, too soon. I was sad to learn the news.My message to Steve… It is apparent that you left behind a lifetime of amazing accomplishments and contributions to others along with so, so many friends and loving family. You are loved and will never be forgotten.

Shocked and saddened to hear the news of Steve’s passing. My deepest condolences to his family. I will always remember our long talks, his great personality and smile over the many years he and I stood at numerous baseball games watching Jeff (scoop) and Sean growing up and playing baseball together. Unfortunately, I will be out of town on Friday and can’t attend the wake. Please give Jeff a big hug for me.

To the family – I am truly deeply sorry for your loss. Steve was truly a light in everyone’s life – always a sunny disposition and a willing spirit to lend a hand and be a friend. I went to H.S. with Steve and served on the reunion committee with him which led a friendship in the past 10 years. I will miss hearing him call me Peppermint Patti and I will miss joking with him about his love for Stoneham & nickname Spartan Steve! He was a genuine person who loved his family.
    I will miss him dearly.

I have had the pleasure of working with Steve for the past 20 years and I’m so thankful to have called him my friend. His smile, kind words or even just a “Happy Wednesday” was enough to make me smile even on the toughest of days. He was such a big part of the JDCU family and his presence will forever be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Rest easy my friend.

I’ll always remember Steve for the ear to ear smile he always carried and how he always made the time to listen, no matter what, if you needed a friendly ear. He seemed to know when something was off, and took the time to see if there was anything he could do to make your day better. He was the epitomy of what a gentleman should be – and though it’s been years since we worked together, always took the time to drop me a line now and again to see how things were going – it meant more to me than he will ever know.

Rest in peace, Steve – your life made the world a better place

To my loving brother and best friend. There are no words to describe how I feel about you “moving” on. However, I especially cherished the time we spent together in recent years. It was impossible to be in a bad mood when you were present. You were without a doubt THE most positive person I have ever known. Thank you for helping Nina and I care for our father “Herbie” in his final days. You know we loved you dearly. I have always been so proud to call you my brother. Mom and Dad were always so proud to call you their son! I would like to imagine you, Dad, Ken Timperley, (one of your old golf buddies), and perhaps “Arnie” Palmer playing a round of golf together. You surely will be missed but the great memories will last forever. Oh, one more thing, what was Ted Williams’s lifetime on base percentage? I’ll give you a week to get back to me! Eternal Peace and Love Bro!

“Greet people with a smile, be kind, help those in need and give back to your community, you will be a better person for doing so”
This was one of the best advice I heard from Steve when I first met him at a community event, to this day I follow those words every day.
Thank you Steve for everything you did for your co-workers, community, family, friends and me. I will forever cherish our conversations and your advice.
I am a better person because of you (I know I’m not the only person to say this after meeting you).
You were a true friend and Guardian Angel. May you Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences to the Jones Family.
